2012 Botany Blitz: Cassville Bluffs SNA: May 12 and June 23-24

This SNA is located a mile or two southeast of the small riverside village of Cassville. I will be making a preliminary reconnaissance trip to this site on Saturday, May 12, and folks are welcome to join me. Come prepared for steep bluff hiking. On Friday night the 11^th, I will be camping in Nelson Dewey State Park (map: http://dnr.wi.gov/org/land/parks/specific/nelsondewey/maps.html; camping info: http://dnr.wi.gov/org/land/parks/specific/nelsondewey/camp.html), which is located about 2 miles west of the village of Cassville. For those who want to join me on the Saturday reconnaissance hike, please meet me at the Nelson Dewey State Park campground at 8 am that morning – I will be driving a little red car with the vanity plate “too many people”.

A full-fledged botany blitz of the Cassville SNA will be held on Saturday and Sunday, June 23 and 24. Again I will be staying at the Nelson Dewey State Park Campground just a few miles from the SNA. Camping reservations are recommended for that weekend, and can be made from links on this site: http://dnr.wi.gov/org/land/parks/specific/nelsondewey/camp.html). There are 45 individual sites in the park. There is also apparently at least one motel and a resort in the village of Cassville. A Google search of “Cassville, WI motels” came up with the Sand Bar Motel, 1115 East Bluff Street, Cassville, (608) 725-5300; I have not been there and only mention it as a possibility.

As before, meet me at 8 am in the State Park campground on Saturday, June 23 or Sunday, June 24, or both days.
